Topic 1.6 Flashcards
What happens during prophase
Nucleic membrane disintegrates. Chromosomes become organized
What happens during metaphase
Spindle fibers become attached to organized chromosomes
What happens during anaphase
Chromosomes split and are pulled away by spindle fibers
What happens during telophase
Nucleic membrane forms again, duplicated and surrounds separated chromosomes to create two separate nuclei
What happens in phase Gap 1
All cellular contents are duplicated
What happens during synthesis
All 46 chromosomes are duplicated
What happens during phase Gap 2
Phase results are double checked
What are cyclins and how do they work
Proteins that ensure tasks are performed at the correct time. Cyclins activate other proteins to carry out their tasks and once the cyclins reach the cell threshold, the cell can move to the next phase in the cell cycle
What is a tumor
An abnormal group of cells that can develop at any stage of life
What is a mutagen
Chemicals that cause mutations that can cause cancer
What is an oncogene
Cells that cause cancer is mutated
What is metastasis
The movement of cells from a primary tumor to other parts of the body to create a secondary tumor
