Topic 1.5 Origin of Cells Flashcards
Endosymbiotic Theory
Eurokatic organelles, such as mitochondria and chloroplast originated from prokaryotic cells through the process of invading other eukaryotic cells.
Louis Pasteur
French scientist that disproved the idea that cells came through spontaneous creation.
Genetic Code
A universal sequence of nucleotides in DNA that determines the specific amino acid sequence in the synthesis of protein.
Spontaneous Generation
Old theory that believed that the formation of living organisms came from non-living matter.
First organism
The exception to the cell theory is the first living organism came from non-living material.
Evidence from Pasteurs Experiment
He did it by sealing nutrient-filled liquids in flasks while leaving others exposed to air (life never arose in the sealed flask, only the open ones).
