Topic 14 Blood supply to the brain, brainstem, cerebellum ect Flashcards
What does the ICA ( internal carotid artery) supply
* reveiw this
Bifurcates into MCA and ACA
- Optic nerves and retina
- Cortex and deep white matter of frontal and parietal lobes
- lateral aspects of temporal and occipital lobes
- Corpus callosum( except posterior portion)
- Most of basal ganglia and internal capsule
What does the vertebro-basilar system supply
* reveiw this
Upper cervical spinal cord
Brainstem
Cerebellum
Most of thalamus & hypothalamus
Cortex and deep white matter of posterior medial parietal lobes, temporal and occipital lobes
Posterior portion( splenium) of corpus callosum
What does ACA supply
LL>UL
Internal capsule( Anterior limb and genu)
Medial surface of FRONTAL and PARIETAL lobe
(primary motor and sensory area for leg & foot)
Septal area(septum pellucidum)
Corpus callosum( except posterior portion)
BASAL GANGLIA
- Ventral head of caudate
- Putamen
What does the MCA supply
UL>LL Temporal lobe Anterior lateral part of frontal lobe Parietal lobe Posterior limb of internal capsule Frontal eye feilds
BASAL GANGLIA
Head and body of caudate
Globus pallidus
putamen
L side broccas and wernikes areas
What does the PCA supply
Diencephalon Midbrain Cerebral peduncles Superior cerebellar peduncle reticular formation optic radiation Splenium of corpus callosum Hippocampal formation Posterior fornix
BASAL GANGLIA
- Substantia nigra
- Subthalamic nucleus
name the segments of the circle of Willis
