What are the three meanings/what is of worship?
- an outward act
- shows inward feeling
- acknowledge something is more worthy
What is liturgical worship and which religions support it and why?
It is a service which has a set service and is led by an ordained priest with set words
Roman Catholics, Church of England, Orthodox
Tradition and Scripture
What is non-liturgical worship and which religions support it and why?
It is a spontaneous type of worship which has no set order or words and is led by an elder but not an ordained clergy
Baptist, Pentecostal, Quakers

How is liturgical worship performed?
With service books, specific readings, sermons, sacraments and hymns
How is non-liturgical worship performed?
Prayers (may be silent- quakers), lively music and Bible readings
What are the positives of liturgical worship?
Keeps traditions
Sense of community by praying together
Avoids false teachings
What are the negatives of liturgical worship?
The act may be good but it may not be personal due to group prayer
Outdated
What are the positives of non-liturgical worship?
Personal
Appeals to the young people
Sense of community as it isn’t led by just one person
Holy Spirit has more focus
What are the negatives of non-liturgical worship?
Open to abuse with new teachings
False teachings

What are features of Anglican worship? (4)
Uses book of Common Prayer and the service is structured by that
Hymns and Canticles are sung

Sacraments such as the Eucharist
What are features of a Roman Catholic worship? (2)
Uses a book of service called a Missal
Believe in transubstantion via the Eucharist
What are features of a Quaker worship? (2)
Service called a ‘meeting for worship’
