3
Q
5 Points to the Particle Model of Matter
A
- All substances are made of tiny particles.
- All particles in a pure substance are the same, different pure substance are -made of different particles
- The particles all have space between them
- The particles are always in motion. The speed of the particles increases when heat is added and decreases when heat is taken away.
- The particles in a substance are attracted to one another. The strength of the attractive forces depend on the type of particle

Q
Changes of states and What are They?
A
- Melting/fusion- the process of changing from a solid to a liquid.
- freezing/solidification- The process of changing a liquid to a solid.
- Condensation/evaporation- the process of changing from a gas to a liquid.
- Vaporization- The process of changing from a liquid to a gas. Note that evaporation is a slowere form of vaporization and boiling is a faster form of vaporization.
- Sublimation- The process of going from a solid to a gas or a gas to a solid without going through the liquid state.
the relationship between solid and gas is always sublimation.
