You must wear eye protection when instructed to do so and keep it on until all practical work is finished
What must be reported immediately to the teacher?
All accidents, spillages and contact with chemicals must be reported immediately to the teacher. All breakages or damage to apparatus must be also reported immediately to the teacher.
What must permission be obtained from the teacher before?
Permission must be obtained from the teacher before a pupil can carry out a practical exercise they have devised themselves

Apparatus involving mains electricity must never be in contact with or switched on without prior permission of the teacher
How must chemicals never be handled?
Chemicals must never be handled directly, smelt or tasted unless otherwise instructed by the teacher
How must laboratory benches be kept?
Laboratory benches must be kept tidy and free from clutter during practical work
How should you treat the Bunsen?
The Bunsen should be turned off or to a low luminous flame when not in use
What must be kept away from the Bunsen whilst it is lit?
Flammable items, including clothes and hair, must be kept away from the Bunsen whilst it is lit
What should never be used in experiments or transported around the laboratory?
Excessive quantities of materials should never be used in experiments or transported around the laboratory
What kind of experiments must be carried out in a laboratory fume cupboard?
All experiments involving toxic fumes must be carried out in a laboratory fume cupboard
