Topic 1 - Electrical energy can be transferred and stored Flashcards
What are the Laws of Electrical Charges?
- Opposite charges attract each other
- Like charges repel each other
What is electrical discharge?
- Sudden transfer of electrical charge from one object to another.
What is charge separation?
The concentration of like charges in specific areas of a neutral object, happens by approach of charged object.
What is Electrical Current?
Reliable flow of charged particles. (it does flow)
How is Electrical Current moved?
It is moved through the movement of electrons
What is a Circuit?
Path which controls the flow of electricity. Things found: conductor load, switch etc.
What units are used to measure the flow of an electric current?
Amperes
What is Electroplaque?
Electricity which is manufactured or produced by a specific organ in the tail which involves thousands of modified cells.
What is Electrical Energy?
Energy transported by charged particles.
What is Voltage?
Measure of how much electrical energy charged particle carries. Another name for Voltage is Potential Difference
What is the Unit of Voltage?
VOLT
How do you measure voltage?
Through a voltmeter
What is a short circuit?
Unintentional low-resistance connection between two points in a circuit usually causing excess current to flow.
Which is more dangerous, current or voltage?
Voltages because a lot of electrical energy.
What is an insulator?
They make it difficult for electrons to flow through them. Examples: wood, rubber, air or eraser
What are Pointers for Electrical Safety?
- Never hold electrical devices when you are wet or nearby water except they are specifically made and accepted for use in wet zones or areas.
- Do not utilize any power cord which is frayed or broken.
- Always unplug electrical devices before looking inside them.
- Do not weigh down circuits by plugging in and operating several devices.
- Stay away from power lines.
- Do not neglect safety features formed into home wiring, appliances, and other electrical devices.
- When unplugging a device, pull on the plug, not electrical cord.
- Never get rid of the third prong from a three prong plug.
What is a fuse?
A thin piece of metal which melts to break an electrical circuit when excess current flow happens.
What is a circuit breaker?
- A peculiar or special wire which heats up and turns off switch when excess curent flow through electrical circuit.
What is the purpose of a fuse?
To break an electrical circuit when excess current flow happens.
What is an electrochemical cell?
Bundle of chemicals which are designed to manufacture small amounts of electricity; produces electricity from chemical reactions.
What are dry cells?
cell which has its electrolyte in the form of paste, often in a sealed case. Example: A Flashlight
What is an electrolyte?
Paste or liquid which conduct electricity since it includes chemicals that create ions.
What is a wet cell?
Liquid electrolyte. Example: A car battery
What is a primary cell?
Cell which produces electricity by means of a chemical reaction which cannot go back to its original form.
