Name the seven SI units for: length, mass, times, current, temperature, amount of substance and luminous intensity
meter (m), kilogram (kg), second (s), ampere (A), kelvin (K), mole (mol) and candela (cd)
What are the two rules for combining uncertainties?
- multiplying/ dividing two measurements: percentage uncertainties are added.
- measurements that are subject to powers: multiplied by the power.
how do you calculate percentage uncertainties?
(resolution/reading) *100
What is a scalar quantity?
A quantity with magnitude only, for example: speed, distance, energy, time, power, charge, current and voltage
What is a vector quantity?
A quantity with magnitude and direction, for example: velocity, displacement, forces and acceleration
Define speed
rate of change of distance
define velocity
rate of change of displacement
define distance
distance refers to how much ground an object has covered during its motion
define displacement
displacement refers to how far out of place an object is and is the overall change in the objects position
