Topic 1 and 2-Motion and forces Flashcards
What is the triangle linking acceleration, time and change in velocity?
What is newtons first law?
A moving object will continue to move at the same speed and direction unless a net external force acts on it. A stationary object will remain at rest unless a net external force acts on it.
What is centripetal force?
An object moving in a circle will have a changing velocity despite the speed staying the same. The resultant force acting on the object is called centripetal force and acts towards the centre of the circle.
What is the triangle linking weight, mass and gravitational field strength?
What is newtons second law?
Acceleration depends on mass and the size of the force.
What is the triangle linking force, mass and acceleration?
What is inertial mass?
Measure of how difficult it is to change the velocity of an object.
Explain the core practical on investigating acceleration.
What is newtons third law?
When two objects touch(sitting on a chair or gravitational atraction between the moon and earth), there is a pair of action reaction forces acting in opposite directions with the same size force.
What is momentum?
The tendancy of an object to keep moving or how hard it is to stop moving.
What is the triangle linking momentum, mass and velocity?
What is the coservation of momentum?
After objects collied the total momentum will be the same before and after.
What is stopping distance?
thinking distance+braking distance
What is reaction time?
The time between a person detecting a stimulus and their response.
What factors can affect braking distance?
Condition of tires(if they are worn they will create less friction)
Weather(if there is rain, less friction will be created)
Terrain(if there is loose gravel, less friction will be created)
Mass(the heavier it is the slower it will slow down with the same amount of friction)
