Topic 1: An Ict System And Its Components Flashcards
What is a system
- a way of doing things
- involves input, processing and outputting
What is ict?
The use of technology for the input, storage, processing and transfer of data and the output of information
-any device or system that allows the storage, retrieval, manipulation, transmission and receipt of digital information
Input
- Involves capturing or entering data e.g via keyboard, bar coding, scanning
- input Involves turning the data into a form that can be processed by the computer
- data needs to be encoded
Processing
Performing actions on the input data. This involves calculations, searching, sorting, arranging, presenting, converting, transferring and classifying
Output
The results or the information produced when the data has been processed. all info systems produce output
Six components of an ICT system
- People
- data
- information
- hardware
- software
- procedures
People
Needed to supply the data and collect the information and make judgements and decisions from the output supplied from the system
Data
The raw material of any ict system
-processed by the systems to provide the information which is the output produced by the system
Procedures
Determines what needs to be done and when and covers the passing of data or information between people
Hardware
The physical components of an ict system. The parts of the system you can touch
Software
The computer programs e.g the operating system, word processing software, spreadsheets and apps
Ict system
is one that involves input, processing and output. An ict system consists of 6 components people, data, information, software, hardware, procedures
6 Types of software
Word processing Spreadsheet software Database software Presentation software System software Graphics software
6 items of hardware
