What is the major consequence with gastroenteritis in children?
Deficient fluid volume
Risk for infection
Risk for impaired skin intergrity
Wash hands.
What diet should a pt with gastroentritis be on? Foods to advoid?
Most common cause?
BRAT diet.
No dairy, immodium, spicy or acidic foods
Most common = viral.
If blood or mucus in stool with a pt with gastroenteritis…
stool culture, O&P, C.diff to rule out bacterial infection.
Sickle Cell Anemia Crisis is…
Acute painful phenomenon.
- Vasoolusive
- Sequestration

How is anemia treated?
Iron supplements for 1-3 months
Wilm’s Tumor Tx?
Avoid palpations, surgery, radiation, chemo 6-15 months
What is the difference between sickle cell trait/disease?
Sickle cell is a gentic disorder that has abnormal hemoglobin S rather than hemogloin A in the RBC’S.
It is caused by a recessive gene or genes that passed through generations.
The client with one s gene has sickle cell trait (Hb sA) and is asymptomatic but is a carrier of the disease.
The client with sicke cell anemia has two s genes (Hb ss) and manifest symptoms.
