tle 2 Flashcards
is the process of preparing seed beds for crop production. Can be performed manually or mechanically depending on the land area, available materials, and budget.
Tillage operations
Similarly, crops require water for their growth and development. The process of supplying water to the crops is known as irrigation.
CROP IRRIGATION
Characteristics of Good Quality Seeds
a. Free from pest and diseases
c. High Viability
b. Free from mixtures
d. Good physical Purity
planting at the crop area with the use of seed.
DIRECT SEEDING
planting with the use of pre-grown seedings or plants that had been propagated from seeds
TRANSPLANTING
is defined as a process whereby seeds may absorb water, increase water content, swell up and then seed coat ruptures and forms into a new plant. You need to conduct seed testing in order to determine if the seeds meet the quality standards
Seed germination
determines the ability of the seed to germinate. This could be identified through its germination rate. If the seeds germinate poorly, it is an indication that it is not a good quality seed. There are three common methods of seed testing:
Seed testing
In this method, seeds are placed in a wet rolled towel to facilitate germination.
Rag Doll Method
this method uses petri dishes and wet tissue to germinate the seeds.
Petri Dish or Plate Method
This method involves using a seed box or seed tray with soil. The seeds are placed in the soil to germinate
