is a system of measurement used to measure something in millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, and meter.
Metric System
is a system of measurement used to measure something in inches, yards, and foot/feet.
English System
a process for making accurate drawings using special drawing tools and instrument.
MECHANICAL DRAFTING
the object is presented into two or more views by projecting the outline into the planes of projection perpendicular to each other.
Orthographic Drawing
the presentation of an object where it is viewed showing the three faces of an object shown.
Pictorial View
a quickly executed freehand drawing that is not intended as a finished work.
Sketch
this is a tool or equipment where the drawing paper is attached. It measures 24 x 36 inches and made with a smooth surface
Drawing Board/Table
Various types of _______ are available for use but hard and soft surface drawing papers are highly recommended to be the best. This type does not groove easily when pressure is applied to the pencil. Oslo paper is commonly used but Bond paper is also recommended.
Drawing Paper
this is used for making precise technical drawings
Bond paper/Vellum/Oslo
this is used for fastening the drawing paper on the drawing table/board to secure the paper without leaving marks
Drafting/Masking Tape
this is used for sharpening pencils whenever they show a sign of dullness.
Pencil Sharpener
this is used to erase specific areas of the drawing, make changes and correct errors in the drawing.
Eraser
this is one of the most important tools in drawing. It comes in various grades.
Drawing Pencil
are used when extreme accuracy is acquired especially working on graphs, diagrams and charts. This ranges to 9H - 2H
Hard Pencils
- are used for general use on technical drawings. This ranges to H, F, HB* AND B*
Medium Pencils
Each division represents one foot and is divided into twelve parts, each part being equal to one inch.
Architect’s Scale
are too soft to be used in mechanical drafting. These are used for technical sketching and art work. This ranges to 2B* to 9B*.
Soft Pencils
this is a tool generally used when reproducing a drawing in an enlarged or reduced form to some regular proportion. The architect’s scale is the most commonly used for general drawing.
Triangular Scale
It is used mostly where large reductions are required. It is divided into 10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90 and 100 units (each represents one foot) per inch.
Engineer’s Scale
This tool is made up of metal with irregular holes. It is a useful tool to protect the rest of the drawing when clearing up smudges, unnecessary pencil lines and other erasures.
Erasing Shield
Various curved lines may be drawn with a ________. It is applied after various location points have been identified.
French Curve
A drawing instrument when making horizontal lines. It is used for guiding triangles when drawing vertical lines. The blade on its upper edge is called the working edge .
T-Square
This drawing instrument is used when drawing arcs and circles or it can also be used for base drawing in projecting lines. It is used in a similar way to a divider.
Compass
It is a three-sided ruler, which typically has two equal sides meeting at a 90 degree angle and to a third side at 45, 30, including 60 degree angles. These are used for drawing vertical and oblique lines. There are two triangles used in drafting namely: 45 x 45 degrees and the 30 x 60 degrees triangles both usually made of celluloid.
Triangles
- It is a semi-circular instrument divided into 180 equal parts, each of which is called a degree. This also has a calibrated angle ranging from 0 degree to 360 degrees. It is used to determine gradations of the degrees when measuring arcs, angles and circles.
Protractor
This is a drawing instrument used when transferring measurements, dividing lines and arcs into desired number of equal parts.
