A
blacks had few rights and little power
whites hated blacks, especially in the Great Depression of the 1930s - lynching was not uncommon

although 50% of the population of most southern town were black, they had to have thgeir own schools, chruches etc
During the trial, black people had to sit away from the white people on the balcony

What happened in the Scottsboro Case
A
In 1931, 9 black men were accused of raping two white women
four men were sentenced to long prison sentances, despite lawyers argued that the accusations were false
it was later discovered that the women were lying
