Priestley formed the Common Wealth Party that argued for a welfare state and a new morality in politics
He believed further wars could only be avoided by mutual respect between countries

A
WW1 was imminent - Birling didn’t believe there would be one - 1945 WW2 just ended
Class distinctions greatly reduced
Women earned a greater place in society
Desire for social change as Attlee was elected and created a welfare state as well as the NHS
