Titration Flashcards
1
Q
Determining the major species in solution besides water
A
- multiply the volume by the molarity
- divide the base by acid
2
Q
Finding the Ka of an acid
A
the pH = pea at halfway to E.P
inverse log of pKa
3
Q
Calculate the pH of a solution
A
- take dilution into account (the molarity)(added volume/total volume)
- plug into H/H equation and use the dilution values
4
Q
Finding the pH after the addition of a acid/base
A
- multiply the dilution value of original compounds by original total volume
- multiply the molarity of added compound by the volume
- write out equation; if added compound is a base, OH- is in reactant and H2O is in products
- create ICFF table; for initial plug in the values calculating in steps 1 and 2
- subtract by the added compound
- for the final F divide the value bu TOTAL volume
- plug into H/H formula
5
Q
calculating the Ka of a weak acid
A
- take dilution into account for each compound
- write out the equation and create a ICFF table. For initial plug in the dilution values and subtract by the limiting reactant.
- plug into H/H equation
