Q

Calculate the pH of a solution

A
  1. take dilution into account (the molarity)(added volume/total volume)
  2. plug into H/H equation and use the dilution values

Q

Finding the pH after the addition of a acid/base

A
  1. multiply the dilution value of original compounds by original total volume
  2. multiply the molarity of added compound by the volume
  3. write out equation; if added compound is a base, OH- is in reactant and H2O is in products
  4. create ICFF table; for initial plug in the values calculating in steps 1 and 2
  5. subtract by the added compound
  6. for the final F divide the value bu TOTAL volume
  7. plug into H/H formula

Q

calculating the Ka of a weak acid

A
  1. take dilution into account for each compound
  2. write out the equation and create a ICFF table. For initial plug in the dilution values and subtract by the limiting reactant.
