Tissues - COMPLETE Flashcards
Four main types of tissues
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nerve
Epithelial Tissues
Bodies protection against the outside world. It is selectively permeable allowing for specific materials across the membrane
Connective Tissues
Connect tissues and organs. Provide a protective layer.
Types of connective tissues
Main types include Fibroblast, Adipose, Immune cells, Mesenchymal Cells.
Muscle Tissues
Aid in voluntary and involuntary movement.
Types of muscle tissues
Skeletal, Cardiac, Smooth
Nervous Tissues
Send and receive electrochemical signals providing the body with information
Types of Nervous Tissues
Neurons and Neuroglia
3 characteristics of the Epithelial Tissues
Composed of closely spaced cells that cover organ surfaces. Closely adhearing
Categories of epithelial tissues
Simple and stratified
Define Matrix
Fills the space between the cells. Mainly composed of ground substance
Matrix Fibers in connective tissues
Collagen, elastic, and reticular
Ground Substance
Gelatinous substance that fills the space between cells
Ground substance function
Active In the development, movement and reproduction of tissues
Composition of ground substance
Water, Proteoglycans, Glycoaminoglycans
