tissues and organs in plants ༊*·˚ Flashcards

1
Q

what is xylem and phloem?

A

Plants have tissues to transport water, nutrients and minerals. Xylem. transports water and mineral salts from the roots up to other parts of the plant. Phloem. transports sucrose and amino acids.

Q

what is spongy mesophyll?

A

Spongy mesophyll. tissue is packed loosely for efficient gas exchange. The spongy mesophyll cells are covered by a thin layer of water. Gases dissolve in this water as they move into and out of the cells.

Q

what is palisade mesophyll?

A

Definition. Referring to one or more layers of cells located directly under the epidermal cells of the adaxial leaf blade surface. The palisade mesophyll is oriented vertically and is longer than broad. Photosynthesis takes place in both palisade and spongy mesophyll.
