Tissues Flashcards
These are tissues mainly used to cover the entire body as well as internal structures and cavities. These are also used for sensation absorption, excretion and secretion
Epithelial tissues
Epithelium with only one layer of cells
Simple epithelium
This consists to a single layer of flattened scale-like cells
Simple Squamous
This consists of a layer of cube-like cells which have similar width and length
Simple Cuboidal
This is a layer of elongated cells. This may be found with cilia or flagella
Simple Columnar
This is a type of epithelial tissue with columnal cells which appear to be arranged in more than one layer because they have been altered by pressure
Pseudo-stratified
This consists of more than one layer of cells
Stratified Spithelium
Has several layers of squamous cells
Stratified Squamous
Has many layers of cuboidal cells
Stratified Cuboidal
Has two or more layers of columnar cells
Stratified Columnar
This is a tissue with balloon-like cells subjected to contraction and stretching. The cells are observed as transitions between squamous and columnar cells
Transitional Epithelium
These are tissues, function of which is to bind and support other tissues and organs together
Connective Tissues
This tissue is composed of cells and interconnected fibrils
Reticular connective tissue
These are cells and fibers observed to be occupying the intercellular spaces
Fibrous connective tissue
These are white, wavy, unbranched bundle of fibers
Collagenous
These are yellow, straight, or bent, branching fibers
Elastic
This consists of large, rounded cells containing fats. The nuclei of these cells are observed at one side because the fat content is occupying almost the whole cytoplasm
Adipose
Also called soft bone. Contains intercellular substance or matrix called chondrin with cells known as chondrocytes. The membrane covering with fibers is the perichondrium
Cartilage
Translucent connective tissue without fibers
Hyaline cartilage
Contains yellow branching fibers
Elastic cartilage
Collagenous unbranched fibers observed to be occupying the tissue
Fibrocartilage
