tissues Flashcards
name 4 primary tissues & where they’re found in the body
epithelium tissue: outer layer of skin
connective tissue: found in the bone
muscle tissue: found in skeletal
nervous tissue: spinal cord, brain ,nerves
How do connective & epithelium cells differ structurally
epithelium structure: cell rich & held closely together
connective : less cells & further away from eachother
what are the two names for epithelial cell layers
simples - one layer
stratified - multiple layers
list the 3 shapes epithelium can be
- squamous (flat)
-columnar(cuboid)
-cubodial (cubes)
function of simple & stratified epithelium
simple - filtration & absorption
stratified - protection e.g in esophagus
what are connective tissues made out of?
an extracellular matrix which consist of ground substances & fibres
why are muscle cells generally elongated
they have to shorten lengths & close down spaces
what 4 regions do neurons consist of?
-dendrites
-axon
-soma(cell body)
-terminals
Which cells secrete the fibres and extracellular matrix components of connective tissue?
fibroblast
what are exocrine & endocrine glands?
exocrine- secrets products into ducts
endocrine - secretes into bloodstream
name 3 examples of exocrine glands
-merocrine
-apocrine
-holocrine
name and describe the 3 types of glandular secretions
merocrine ; sweat glands found all over the body
apocrine; axillary gland found in the armpit or groin area
holocrine; found on the scalp
which primary tissue are basement membranes found & what is their function?
epithelia
function; separates tissue & protects them from mechanical stress.
name the 3 cell surfaces epithelial cells have
villi , microvillia( absorption) & cilia (movement). (the cell is known as pseudo when cilia is present )
name 3 types of fibres found in the extracellular matrix of connective tissue
-collagen
-reticular
-elastic
