Tissue Types + functions Flashcards
1.1.3
Nervous
nerves, spinal cord, brain : made up of neurons
Nervous function
receive, interpret, and respond to signals
Epithelial
Lines to outer surfaces of all organs and blood vessels : composed of epithelial cells aligned in sheets and connected to one another
Epithelial function
works to absorb, secrete, protect, and sense for us
Muscle
makes up the muscles in the body, they can be striated, smooth, or cardiac. Striated is attached to bones, Smooth is attached to the walls of internal organs, cardiac is in the walls of the heart
Cardiac muscle tissue function
provides the ability for the heart to contract
Connective
Multiple types of connective tissue, it is attached to and in between other tissue types
Connective tissue function
Supports and connects other tissue types in the body, works to hold organs in place, attach muscles to bones, link bones with joints, and enable other tissues to stretch
