Tissue healing Flashcards
What happens in the bleeding phase?
6-8hours, cell death leads to bleeding
Platelets and enzymes plug the area
Vasoconstriction to limit bleeding
What happens in the inflammation phase ?
0-72hours
Vasodilation and increased fibrogen and fibrin
Leucocytes, cytokines to regulate lactic acid and stimulate proliferation
What happens in proliferation phase?
3days-6weeks
Beginning of angiogenesis
fibroblasts produce type 3 collagen towards area
Scar tissue forms
Granulation tissue contracts wound
New capillary growth and restoration of blood flow, oxygen and nutrients
What are the 5 signs of inflammation
Redness - increased flow
Swelling - exudation of fluid
Pain - stretched pain receptors
Heat - exudation of fluid
Loss of function - tissue disruption
What happens in remodelling phase?
3 weeks-12moths
Wound matures type 3 collagen into type 1, refinement
Granulation tissue replaced with organised scar tissue
Optimal loading refines the functional pattern of collagen fibres
What is angiogenesis?
The development of new blood vessels and capillary growth
What is granulation tissue?
The new connective tissue that is formed as a result of angiogenesis, contracts the wound.
