Tissue Flashcards
Embryonic stem cells
Unspecialized cells containing encoded information in their DNA that enables them to form all types of specialized cells
The different connective tissues
Loose connective tissue Areolar connective tissue Adipose tissue Reticular tissue Dense regular connective tissue Dense irregular connective tissue Elastic connective tissue
Simple epithelium
Consist of a single layer of cells that maybe be squamous or cuboidal
Simple squamous
Lines in a mosaic pattern
Functions: Osmosis ,filtration,
Secretion absorption , friction reduction
Locations: air sacs in lungs, special structures in the kidney , diffuse into blood
Mesothelium
Serous membranes lines the ventral cavity
Endothelium
Lines the internal surface of the heart blood vessels and lymphatic vessels
Describe the distinguishing characteristics of epithelial tissue
Protection, facilitate certain movement of particles.
Identify the common locations of general functions of each epithelial tissue
Squamous: endothelium , mesothelium, air sacs lungs, kidneys
Cuboidal: kidneys tubules, secretory portion of some glands superficial layer of ovaries
Columnar: lines the internal surfaces of the stomach and intestines the ducts of many glands, uterine tubes , paranasal sinuses and ventricles in the brain
Pstraitified: respiratory passage ways
Stratified squamous: keratinized type form the epidermis of skin, nonkeratinized is in mouth esophagus
Transitional epithelium: internal surface of urinary bladder
Simple columnar
Single layer columnar cells contains scatter goblets
Locations: lines the internal surfaces of the stomach and intestines
Ducts glands uterine tubes, sinuses and ventricle
Functions: absorption secretion protection
Pstraitified
Single layer of ciliated columnar cells that look as if there appears to be more then one layer of cells, goblets
Location: lines respiratory passage ways
Function: secretion mucus beating cilia
Stratified squamous
Cells in the deepest layer are cuboidal in the shape but gradually become flattened as they migrate to the surface
Location Keratinized epidermis, nonkeratinized
Esophagus, vagina , rectum
Transitional epithelium
Lines urinary bladder and consist of multiple layers of cells with the free surface cells of the unstretched tissue when rounded it becomes flat
Protection from permits the stretching of the wall of urinary tract
Adapted for contraction
Muscle
Contains scattered cells within a matrix
Connective
Sheets of closely packed cells
Connective
Composed of neurons and neuroglia
Nervous tissue
Produces heat
Muscle
Supports tissue and binds tissue together
Connective
Lines body cavity
Epithelial
Forms and conducts electrical impulse
Nervous
Functions in absorption and secretion
