Tissue Flashcards
What is Epithelial Tissue and what are its functions?
Covers the whole surface of the body, made of closely packed layers of cells.
- Specialised to form the lining of all internal and external body surfaces
- Often have a protective or secretory function
- Cells sit on a basement membrane made of collagen and proteins
Where are squamous, cuboidal and columnar epithelium tissue found?
Squamous- makes alveoli in lungs
Cuboidal- lines kidney tubules and in liver
Columnar- found in respiratory tract
Define stratified
Layers of epithelium
Define Cilia
Makes cell look furry/hairy
- help the cell move
- help other debris/substances move across the surface
What is simple epithelium?
One layer
What are the four types of muscle tissue and what do they do?
Skeletal- cause movement you can control by contraction, attached to bones and in a striped pattern
- Smooth- spindle long and thin shaped cells less powerful than skeletal snd cause uncontrollable movement
- Cardiac- heart tissue that contracts without stimulation
- Connective- connects, supports and deleted, made of collagen fibres in an extra cellular matrix, elastic.
What is AIM
Actual length=
Image length/magnification
How is millimetres turned into micrometers?
x1000
Define Solvent & Solute
Solvent- a substance that a chemical can dissolve in
Solute- a molecule that dissolves in a solvent
Define Tissue
Cells working with the same function together
