Tissue Flashcards
Conective Tissue
Functions in connecting, supporting or binding other tissue types e.g. bone blood fat
What does connective tissue contain
Contains cells (fibrocytes)
Fibres (Elastin and collagen)
Tendons
attached bone to muscle
Made mostly of collagen fibres
Endotendon is a sheath around fibres to allow sliding
Loose elastic tissue, allows tendon to move along side neighbouring tissues
Contains spindle shaped fibrocytes and fibroblasts
Bone
Rigid body tissue consisting of cells embedded in a abundant hard intercellular material
Type of connective tissue
Made up of collagen and calcium phosphate
Osteopaths held in calcified matrix
What type of epithelium is found in the Trachea and why
Collated- Needed to produce mucus to trap pathogens from air and move mucus out of airway
What type of epithelium is found in the lining of blood vessels and why
Simple Squamous - needed to allow fast diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide
What type of epithelium is found in the intestine and why
striated- needed to absorb nutrients
Smooth muscle
Spindle shape, nonstriated
Uninsulated fibres
Occurs in walls of internal organs
INVOLUNTARY
Cardiac Muscle
Striated, banched
Uninucleated fibres
Occurs in walls of heart
INVOLUNTARY
Skeletal Muscle
Striated tubular multinuclear fibres
Usually attached rk skelet
VOLUNTARY
Tropomyosin
Protein that regulates muscle contraction
G actin
Monomer of actin
What does each fibre contain
Several Nuclei
Many mitochondria
An extensive sacroplasmic reticulum (specialised endoplasmic reticulum, ca++ store)
Contractile elements called myofibrils
Myofibril
Contain a chain of repeating units called sacraments with a characteristic pattern of lines, zones and bands
