Timers Flashcards
Timer 555
An integrated circuit used in a variety of timer, pulse generation and oscillator applications
Uses both analogue and digital
555 Structure
Comparator is a opamp that is optimised for outputing a HIGH or LOW signal depending on whether the + input is higher or lower than the - input
A flip flop is a circuit that has two stable states and can be used to store state information
Flip Flops
Have two stable states
Can state state information
Can be built with 2 NOR gates or 2 NAND gates
Monostable
An external trigger causes the timer to output a single pulse of adjustable duration. Automatically turns off.
Astable
Continually switches between high and low without intervention from user
Bistable
Two inputs for on and off
PWM
Encode a message into a pulsing signal. Main use is to allow the control of the power supplied to electrical devices.
