What is a hardwood
the wood from a broadleaved tree (such as oak, ash, or beech) as distinguished from that of conifers.
What is a softwood (facts) (5)
. Grow in cool climates e.g Canada
. Cone baring trees (coniferous trees) mostly evergreen
. Loose grain structure
. Often used as building materials
. Trees grow very tall and straight and very fast making it easier for manufacturer to cut

What are manufactured boards
are manufactured by binding or fixing the strands, particles, fibres, or veneers or boards of wood, together with adhesives, or other methods of fixation to form composite material

Tanalising
. Mainly used outdoors
. Prevent future water absorption
. This can extend the the timbers life by up to 50 years
Waxing
. Good form of sealing wood without hiding
. Natural grain
. Left with nice smooth and shiny protective layer on surface
Varnishing
. Applied to a surface prevent moisture absorption
. Protects timber from bacteria
. Used to provide a tough and scratch resistant surface
Painting
. Applies a protective and decorative finish
. Used to provide a tough scratch resistant surface
. Used before top coat to improve vibrancy of colour and adhesion to the wood
