Tibia & Fibula Flashcards
Tibia -
What is the tuberosity?
What attaches?
Tibial tuberosity
Quadriceps
Tibia - what are the condyles? Together?
Medial and lateral condyles - tibial plateau
Tibia - what is the eminence?
Intercondylar eminence
Tibia - what are the borders?
Anterior, sharp front - medial - interosseous membrane
What are the notches?
Trochlea notch, part of ankle joint socket
Fibular notch, where fibula sits
Tibia - what is the malleolus?
Medial malleolus
Tibia - what is the line?
What is the surface?
How does it articulate?
Soleal line
Popliteal surface
Superiorly with femur, distally with talus, laterally with fibular
Fibula - position to tibia?
Lateral to tib at bottom, posterolateral at top
Fibula - what are the parts?
Head, neck, shaft, interosseous border, lateral malleolus, superior and inferior tibiofibular joints
Purpose of the fibula?
Increase surface area for muscle attachment - not weight bearing
Muscles in anterior compartment of leg?
Tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus, peroneus tertius
Muscles in the lateral compartment of leg?
Peroneus longus, peroneus brevis
Muscles of the posterior compartment?
Gastrocnemius, soleus, plantaris, popliteus, tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus
