Thyroid gland test Flashcards
What are the symptoms of increase in T3 and T4?
Increased HR, Intolerance to heat, loss of weight and tremors.
In severe cases: Protrudent eyes
What are the symptoms of decrease in T3 and T4?
Laziness, constipation, Intolerance to heat, Inc in weight and disturbance of period.
Describe the communication between hypothalamus, pituitary gland and thyroid gland
Hypothalamus controls pituitary gland by TRH, while the pituitary gland controls the thyroidngland by TSH.
(By + and - feedbacks)
What are the types of problems in the thyroid gland?
Primary: when the problem is in the thyroid gland
Secondary: when the problem is in other regions (hypothalamus or pituitary)
- Increased T3 and T4
- Decreased TSH
What might be the diagnosis?
Primary hyperthyroidism
- Increased T3 and T4
- Increased TSH
What might be the diagnosis?
Secondary hyperthyrodism
- decreased T3 and T4
- Increased TSH
What might be the diagnosis?
Primary hypothyroidism
- Decreased T3 and T4
- Decreased TSH
What might be the diagnosis?
Secondary hypothyroidism
- T3 and T4 at the higher end
- Decreased TSH “trying to compensate for the increase in T3 and T4”
What might be the diagnosis?
Subclinical hyperthyrodism
- T3 and T4 at the lower end
- Increased TSH “trying to compensate to the decrease in T3 and T4”
Subclinical hypothyroidism
