Thrombophilia Flashcards
The inappropriate formation of plt or fibrin clots that obstruct blood vessels.
Occurs when activation of blood coagulation exceeds the ability of the natural protective mechanisms to prevent fibrin formation.
Can form in any part of the cardiovascular system.
Composed of fibrin, plts, and entrapped cells.
Thrombosis
Physical, chemical, or biological events (inflammation) that release prothrombotic mediators.
Inappropriate and uncontrolled plt activation.
Uncontrolled triggering of coag system.
Impaired fibrinolysis
Causes of Thrombophilia
Composed of plts and fibrin.
Embolus lodges in the small vessels of heart or brain.
80% of myocardial infarctions are due to arterial thrombosis.
85% of strokes.
Arterial Thrombi
Composed of red blood cells trapped in fibrin mesh. Most commonly in lower limbs.
Can occur in the lungs.
Symptoms (limbs): localized pain, warmth, swelling, redness.
Venous Thrombi
Hypercholesterolemia Hypertension Smoking Physical inactivity Obesity Age Fractures
Nondisease thrombosis risk factors
Antiphospholipid syndrome Cancer Hepatic disorders Renal disorders PNH Sickle cell anemia Chronic inflammation
Diseases with thrombotic risk factors
Antithrombin deficiency Protein C deficiency Protein S deficiency TPA deficiency Activited Protein C Deficiency Prothrombin gene mutation 20210 Dysfibrinogenemia
Congential Thrombosis risk factors
