Thrombocytes Flashcards
What are thrombocytes?
Thrombocytes, or platelets, are irregularly shaped blood cell fragments, have no nucleus, and are small compared with other blood cells.
Thrombocytes are also known as platelets.
What is the lifespan of a platelet?
The lifespan of a platelet is between 7 and 10 days.
Platelets have a lifespan of 7-10 days.
What are thrombocytes involved in?
Thrombocytes are involved in hemostasis, mechanisms that stop bleeding.
Hemostasis is the process that stops bleeding.
What do thrombocytes contain that helps with hemostasis?
Thrombocytes also contain adhesive proteins that allow them to stick to the fibrin mesh at an injury site, which helps hemostasis.
Adhesive proteins in thrombocytes help them stick to the fibrin mesh.
When can wound healing begin?
Wound healing can only begin when bleeding from an injury has stopped.
Wound healing starts once bleeding has ceased.
