What is derailment?
Break in linked association between sequential thought - patient and observer do not understand the association
What is omission?
All or part of the thought is absent without a reason
What is fusion?
Thoughts become fused together
What is substitution?
An inappropriate/illogical thought replaces another
What is circumstantiality?
Lots of detail given to seemingly insignificant points when answering a question
What is tangential thinking?
Talking around the point as thoughts diverge from the topic

Word salad/schizophasia
Speech made of non-sensical words and phrases
What are neologisms?
Made up words and phrases used in idiolect
What is an obsession?
A thought which dominates and endures despite the person knowing it is unhelpful and irrelevent

Patient experiences symptoms of a mood disorder and schizophrenia at the same time
No other medical disorder/substance causing symptoms

What is schizophreniform disorder?
Disorder has symptoms of schizophrenia and loss of functioning but fails to meet threshold for diagnosis
eg. shorter duration
