Abnormal Findings Respiration Patterns
Cheyne-Stokes respiration-
Biot’s respiration-
Chronic obstructive breathing-
A
Cheyne-Stokes respiration- breathing periods of 30-45 seconds with periods of apnea
Common near death
Biot’s respiration- similar to Cheyne-Stokes but the pattern is irregular
Occurs with heat trauma & brain abscesses
Chronic obstructive breathing- normal inspiration but prolonged expiration (to overcome airway resistance)
