Thoracic Wall Flashcards
What makes up the axial skeleton?
Skull, ribs, sternum, sacrum, and coccyx
What makes up the appendicular skeleton?
Upper limbs, lower limbs (Shoulder girdle and hipbones)
Which are the True, False, and Floating ribs?

What are the layers of the Intercostal Muscles?
External, Internal, and Innermost (All innervated by intercostal nerves)
Describe the Intercostal Neuromuscular Bundle.
From superior to inferior (In costal groove)… Vein, Artery, Nerve “VAN.” This branches to form the Collateral Branch (NAV).
Trace the blood supply to Thoracic Wall (arteries only).
-Thoracic aorta (Posterior to intercostals) –> Posterior intercostal aa.
^^^ anastomosis ∨∨∨
-Internal thoracic aa. –> Anterior intercostal aa.
Trace the venous system in the Thoracic Wall.
- Posterior intercostal veins –> Azygos system –> SVC
- Internal thoracic veins –> Brachiocephalic veins –> SVC
