Thoracic Spine Flashcards
who is more likely to have a disc lesion? people under or above 50?
under 50
over 50 morelikey to have disc herniation
in examining history, what should be noted?
- age
- parasthesia/numbness
- radiating pain w/ cough/sneeze/pooping
- pain w/ deep breathing
- digestive problems
Numbness is an indication of
nerve compression
what is possible reasoning for pain with cough/sneeze/bearing down?
diaphragm attach to dura and can pull it if there is a space-occupying lesion.
ie. herniation
What is problems with deep breathing indicative of?
thoracic/rib problem.
or lung problem referring to back
Where does digestive problem refer pain to?
Thoracic area.
What are some things needed to be observed?
- kyphosis
- scoliosis
- breathing pattern
- barrel chest
- funnel chest
- pigeon chest
most idiopathic scoliosis curves are
R thoracic
L lumbar
What is preferred breathing pattern?
Diaphragmatic breathing
anterior to posterior distance greater that 1/2 distance between 2 sids of chest wall
Barrel chest
indented sternum?
protruding?
Funnel
Pigeon chest
What are palpation examinations?
skin temp
scratch test
skin roll test
What is scratch test?
scratch both sides and compare reaction on both sides. fast on one side means acute
slow= chronic
What is skin roll test?
looking for tissue density
What do you check for with AROM?
- amount/smoothness
- segment of increase/decreaase
- symmetry
- deviations
What are PROM motions
knees to chest
prone press up
moving legs.
You can measure thoracic ROM into forward bending with
tape measure
C7-L1
2-3 cm norm.
How do you measure motion into inspiration and expiration
circumfurence measurement at T4
Accessory motion in the spine is also called
Passive intervertebral motion.
PIVMS
Can resistive Isometric testing be done on the spine
not really. too much working at once.
What are the ST of Thoracic Spine?
Adams Bend Test
SLR
Soto-Hall Test
Slump Test
Can mobs help reduce kyphosis in osteoporosis?
kinda
thrust manipulation can help
impingement
neck pain
rom.
rotator cuff tendinopathy
Concepts that the patient’s primary muskuloskeletal symptoms may be directly or indirectly related or influenced by impairments from various regions of the body
Regional interdependence.
