Below the mastoid process at the level of the prominence of the thyroid cartilage

Beam is directed 5-15 degree cranially
Centred in the midline just below the prominence of the thyroid cartilage
C-spine peg view
C2 through the mouth
Lateral thoracic spine
level of T7, mid-axillary line
This is usually just below the inferior angle of the scapula if the patients arms are raised
AP thoracic spine
2.5cm inferior to sternal angle
Lateral lumbar spine
level of lower costal margins, 7.5cm anterior to lumbar spinous processes
AP lumbar spine
level of lower costal margins, mid-sagittal plane
L3
Lumbar spine - oblique
Patient rotated 45 degrees
At the level of the lower costal margin
Centred towards the mid-clavicular line
