Smoking causes a person’s arteries to become blocked. This prevents blood from flowing properly, and can cause heart attack or stroke.
Food tests - Sugar- ?
Benedict’s solution in hot water bath it turns red/ yellow.
Food tests - Protein - ?
Biuret solution is a mixture of copper sulphate and sodium hydroxide solutions this turns pink/ purple.
Food tests - Lipids - ?
Add ethanol and water and the solution will go milky.
Food tests - Starch - ?
Add some iodine and it goes black.
What is Kwashiorkor?
Protein Malnutrition

What are the 1 of the 2 main layers the leaf is divided into? Spongy Layer
Spongy layer- Contains air spaces, allowing dioxide to diffuse out of the leaf.
What are the different gene banks?
Seed banks - dried seeds of plants of plants are stored at low temperatures.
tissue banks - buds and other cells from plants are stored.
Cryo banks - a seed or embryo is preserved at very low temperatures, normally in liquid nitrogen.
Pollen banks - pollen grains are stored

What is convection?
Happens in liquids and gases. Heat rises. Part of a fluid that is warmer than the rest rises and sets up a convection current.
What is conduction?
Vibrations passed between colliding particles in a solid.
What is radiation?
Thermal energy transferred through radiation. Passes through gases and some solids, it can pass through vacuum.
Put the electromagnetic waves in order from most energy to least energy.
Gamma Rays, x-rays, UV, Visible light, Infrared, microwaves, radio waves
What are the different types of enzymes?
Carbohydrase which break down carbohydrates into sugar molecules.
Protease which break down into proteins into amino acids.
Lipase which breaks down lipids into fatty acids and glycerol. This process is helped by bile.
How is DNA arranged?
Into long strands called chromosomes.
Electromagnets: what is a coil of wire called?
