25 year old married women given the name eve white
Experiencing severe and blinding headaches and unexplained blackouts
No physical cause so doctor referred her to a psychiatrist
Procedure- appearance of eve black
Letter , handwriting changed half way through
She said she started it but had not finished it
She asked if hearing voices meant insanity and put her hands on her head and a contrasting personality appeared
Mischievous and care free (eve black)
Eve black aware of eve white but not vice versa
In eve whites child hood she appeared to play pranks
Eve white confirmed this, recalling times she was inexplicably punished
Eve black denied association with eve whites child and husband and selectively erased memories from eve whites memory
Eve black made her presence known thought voices and headaches
Aim
To find out what caused eve whites headaches and blackouts
Results
EW 110, high memory function
Ink blot showed repressedemotionally
Introvert
Care and tolerance
EB 104, low memory function Ink blot showed regressive child like behaviour Extrovert Intolerant and selfish EGG boarder line normal
What happens after 8 months ?
Situation changed go worse during one session of hypnosis, eve white stopped talking and asked who the Therepist who he was
This new personality was called Jane
She was mature and confident
Jane was aware of everything other two did
Conclusions
Perhaps patient was acting but therapy Was prolonged so seems doubtful
Appropriate symptoms of schizophrenia were absent
If case of MPD then it is impossible to know if 1 became 3 or 3 always present
Ethics
Other personalities emerged after therapy therefore not really cured
