Origin… Anterior inferior iliac spine and ilium superior to
acetabulum
Insertion… Base of patella and to tibial tuberosity via
patellar ligament
Innervation… Femoral nerve
Blood Supply… Profunda femoris, lateral circumflex
femoral arteries
Action… Extends leg at knee joint and flexes thigh at hip
joint
Sartorius
Origin… Anterior superior iliac spine and superior part of notch below it
Insertion… Superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation… Femoral nerve
Blood Supply… Femoral artery
Action… Abducts, laterally rotates, flexes thigh, flexes knee
joint
Vastus Intermedius
Quadriceps
Origin… Anterior and lateral surfaces of body of femur
Insertion… Base of patella and to tibial tuberosity via
patellar ligament
Innervation… Femoral nerve
Blood Supply… Lateral circumflex femoral and profunda
femoris arteries
Action… Extends leg at knee joint
Vastus Lateralis
Quadriceps
Origin… Greater trochanter, lateral lip of gluteal tuberosity,
lateral lip of linea aspera
Insertion… Base of patella and to tibial tuberosity via
patellar ligament
Innervation… Femoral nerve
Blood Supply… Lateral circumflex femoral and profunda femoris arteries
Action… Extends leg at knee joint
Vastus Medialis
Quadriceps
Origin… Intertrochanteric line, greater trochanter, lateral lip
of gluteal tuberosity, and lateral lip of linea aspera
Insertion… Base of patella and to tibial tuberosity via
patellar ligament
Innervation… Femoral nerve
Blood Supply… Femoral and profunda femoris arteries
Action… Extends leg at knee joint
