Thermal energy Flashcards
Conduction
Need kinetic energy. Needs particles to heat up. Particles move and bump into each other, the high energy particles will bump into low energy particles it will transfer thermal energy. works in solids
Convection
Cold air is denser than hot air Cold air will sink and hot air will rise. Particles will bump into each other less dense The hot air will rise around the cold air. And the cycle continues
Works on fluids- something that flows.
Air is also a type of fluid
Radiation
Acceleration of particles will release electromagnetic radiation. Light from a fire is electromagnetic radiation.
Charged= acceleration
Acceleration= change of speed
An acceleration increases so does the radiation
Does not require matter
Thermal energy transfer is
is heat moving from a warmer object to a cooler object
