Thermal Comfort (T01) Precondition Flashcards
What the aim for Thermal Comfort?
to create indoor thermal environments that provide comfortable thermal conditions to the majority of people in support of their health, well-being and productivity.
Achieving thermal satisfaction among people requires some level of control over thermal comfort parameters in any given environment
Overly warm indoor spaces are linked to what health outcomes?
increases in sick building syndrome symptoms, irregular heart rate, respiratory issues, fatigue and negative mood
What 6 core parameters are used to provide a means of predicting thermal comfort?
- air temp
- humidity
- air movement
- mean radiant temp of surrounding surfaces
- metabolic rate
- clothing insulation
PMV = Predicted Mean Vote
Mechanically conditioned regularly occupied spaces of at least 90% must meet one of the following thermal comfort conditions threshold:
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 1
PMV range of +/- 0.5
Mechanically conditioned regularly occupied spaces of at least 95% must meet one of the following thermal comfort conditions:
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 1
PMV range of +/- 1.0
+ 2 points from T03 and/or T04
Naturally conditioned regularly occupied spaces must meet all the following Indoor Operative Temperature conditions if the minimum Prevailing Mean Outdoor Temp [tpma(out)] is 50°F:
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 1
tpma(out) x 0.31 + 47.9°F
Naturally conditioned regularly occupied spaces must meet all the following Indoor Operative Temperature conditions if the maximum Prevailing Mean Outdoor Temp [tpma(out)] is 92°F:
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 1
tpma(out) x 0.31 + 60.5°F
What is dry bulb temp?
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 2
when a thermometer is openly exposed to the air as it reads the air temp outside (away from moisture and radiation)
What is operative temp?
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 2
the average of dry bulb temp and mean radiant temp
For long-term thermal data, the project must meet the following monitoring requirements for temperature and humidity:
What is the range for dry bulb temp?
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 2
a. meet feature T06: Thermal Comfort Monitoring
b. in the past 6 months, data should use:
1. PMV in range of option 1 using only dry bulb temp
2. dry bulb temp range: 70-77 °F for at least 90% of standard occupied hrs. The designed air velocity is not more 40 fpm at 5.6 ft above the floor.
Thermal Comfort Survey requirements dictate:
T01 Thermal Performance - Option 3
project must score at least 2 points in Feature T02 Verified Thermal Comfort
Describe the two options for monitoring thermal parameters in all spaces except dwelling units.
T01 Thermal Performance - Part 2
option 1: annual testing
option 2: continuous monitoring (must meet Feature T06)
What are the pre-approved survey requirements for thermal comfort if there are more than 45 occupants?
T02
35% min number of responses
What are the pre-approved survey requirements for thermal comfort if there are less than 20 occupants?
T02
80% of those regular occupants responded
What are the pre-approved survey requirements for thermal comfort if there are 20 to 45 regular occupants?
T02
15 regular occupants responded
