lib fem- there has been a march of progress- C of E has allowed women to become priests, and mosque in london allowed a woman to become imam, and men and women could pray side by side

holm- places of worship segregate the sexes- curtain between men and women whilst praying in mosque, men are in central areas watching imam, women off to side and watch from screen
women participation can be restricted, eg from preaching/ reading sacred texts, cannot pray if on period or enter mosque - devaluation of women

laws and customs give women fewer rights than men eg cannot become priest, in islam only men can divorce women, whilst men can marry 4 women
many religions reinforce traditional gender roles, eg taliban restrict girls from education or going into high paying jobs
