gendered socialisation
girls socialised into religious values sought for by religion eg passive docile- benefits laws and customs
christianity- taught to obey father/husband authority

postmodernism- no longer socialised to be passive docile, individuals in society can now make choice over their roles- explains why women more likely to leave

ultimate questions AO3
secularisation- people are more likely to turn to scientific methods for answers rather than religion answers- contradicts davie
nurturing and motherhood
women use religion as a part of motherhood role- socialised into values that make them more caring, child rearing experiences reinforce this- greater focus on the family, use religion for moral development
nurturing and motherhood AO3
CPOW- women now working more, moving away from traditional ideas of femininity, but women still more likely to be religious, trad gender socialisation cannot be only reason
compensation for deprivation
women turn to religion for the compensation that it offers for the things they don’t have
-organismic deprivation- more likely to suffer from ill health, turn to religion for healing
