Theories of increasing self-awareness such as the Johari Window and the journey from unconscious incompetence to unconscious competence, and types of feedback Flashcards
What is Johari Window
The Johari Window is a model used to enhance self-awareness and improve interpersonal relationships. It consists of four quadrants:
Open Area: Known to self and others. This is where open communication occurs.
Blind Area: Known to others but not to self. Feedback from others helps reduce this area.
Hidden Area: Known to self but not to others. Self-disclosure can reduce this area.
Unknown Area: Unknown to both self and others. Discovery through new experiences and feedback can reduce this area
Explain the Journey from Unconscious Incompetence to Unconscious Competence
This model describes the stages of learning and skill acquisition:
Unconscious Incompetence: Not aware of the lack of skill.
Conscious Incompetence: Aware of the lack of skill.
Conscious Competence: Aware and able to perform the skill with effort.
Unconscious Competence: Skill becomes second nature and can be performed effortlessly
What are the types of feedback
Constructive Feedback: Focuses on specific behaviors and offers suggestions for improvement.
Positive Feedback: Reinforces desired behaviors and encourages repetition.
Negative Feedback: Points out undesirable behaviors but should be delivered carefully to avoid demotivation.
360-Degree Feedback: Involves feedback from multiple sources, including peers, subordinates, and supervisors, providing a comprehensive view
