the Government shouldn’t intervene in society and allow more freedom and privatize state-run businesses to encourage competition
What are the roles of education for the new right
- socialisation - pass on the national culture and maintain the status quo
- skills - give us skills for jobs
Why is the new right worried about education
- State control of schools has caused standards to slip as there is no incentive to be better as they don’t answer to a consumer so results in a less qualified workforce
- schools haven’t taught the right skills which has created a dependency culture
What is the study to support the new rights view on education
Chubb and Moe found that working class families who go to private schools perform 5% better as they have to answer their consumer (parents) creating a higher standard of education, he proposes to make state schools have to compete for students with a voucher system which would be there main income to get better results for pupils
