Theories Of Development Flashcards
3 stages of attachment
Pre attachment, attachment in the making, clear cut attachment
Pre attachment
Birth to 6 weeks behaviour designed to attract attention
Attachment in the making
6 weeks to 6 months discriminates between known and unknown
Clear cut attachment
6 months to 18 months person permenance established
S-R Psych
Behaviour is a response to stimuli eg classical conditioning
Instrumental conditioning
We learn through trial and error
Latent learning rats
Maze learning number of errors made before reaching the food box reduces most quickly when there is food and rat is hungry
Cognitive revolution
1950s more attention was paid to internal cognitive processes
Nativism
Such behaviours cannot be learned at all but must be result of innate knowledge
Violation of expectation
Presents infants with 2 scenarios possible and impossible. Infants look longer at impossible events.
Constructivism
Rejects S-R psych it’s view is a person develops consisting of simple learning mechanisms. Child actively constructs a model of world: change of internal states, shared experience
Piaget stages of cognitive development
Assimilation+accommodation
Vygotsky and social constructivism
Language is basis of thought MKO
ZPD
MKO helps child cross ZPD
