Prenatal And Infant Brain Development Flashcards
Germinal
Beginning of the embryonic brain development
Neural structure developed following these stages:
- cell proliferation
- cell migration
- cel differentiation
- programmed cell death
- synaptic rearrangement
Neural cell proliferation
Massive production of cells occurs from approx 2-4 months of gestation but continues until birth
Cell migration
All neurons come from neural precursor cells and these undifferentiated cells can become neurons or glia cells
Layers differentiation
This migration of neurons creates layers of the cortex
Cell differentiation
When cells migrate they start to differentiate and become the neural cell they will be throughout your life
Cell death apoptosis
Discards neurons that did not connect to others without a role
Elimination of synapses
Synaptic rearrangmemnt
Plasticity
Brains ability to modify or reorganise
