Theories Flashcards
These are innate interventions that covers your scope. ex: Cleaning a wound
INDEPENDENT NURSING INTERVENTION
This intervention requires orders such as when administering medications.
DEPENDENT NURSING INTERVENTIONS
It is used in logic and reason to conclude a conclusion prior to experience. (Conclusion before experiment)
A PRIORI
It is learning thru experience. (Experiment before conclusion)
A POSTERIORI
These ideas are natural and humans are born with it.
INNATE IDEAS
It uses deductive reasoning. It states that reason is the chief source and test of knowledge. It utilizes “Theory-then-research” strategy.
RATIONALISM
It emphasizes priori reasoning.
RATIONALISM
It is a deductive logic by reasoning from the cause to an effect or from generalization to particular instance.
PRIORI REASONING
It uses an inductive method and states that scientific knowledge can be derived from sensory experience.
EMPIRICISM
The most global perspective of discipline.
METAPARADIGM
4 Metaparadigm of Nursing

ENVIRONMENT
HEALTH
NURSING
Individuals who are participants of nursing.
PERSON/HUMAN BEING
Human being’s significant others and the physical surrounding.
ENVIRONEMENT
Human processes of living and dying
HEALTH
Actions taken by the nurse; goals or outcome of nursing actions; process of ADPIE

EVALUATION
Meaning of nursing phenomenon through analysis, reasoning, and logical argument
NURSING PHILOSOPHY
Works of grand theorists/pioneers of nursing
NURSING CONCEPTUAL MODELS
Theories which are complex, abstract, broad in scope that requires further research for clarification
GRAND THEORIES
Theories which are more limited in scope
MIDDLE-RANGE THEORIES
Theories which are situation specific; narrow in scope and focuses on specific patient population and time.
PRACTICE-LEVEL NURSING THEORIES
Manipulation of the Environment for the fast recovery of patients
FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE
