What is a war?
A fight between nations to resolve issues between them
When is there peace in an area?
When there is no conflict
What is a protest?
An expression of disapproval, often in a public place
What is violent protest otherwise known as?
Riot
What is terrorism?
The unlawful use of violence, usually against civilians, to achieve a political goal
What are the three reasons that wars start?
Greed, Self-Defence, and Retaliation
What is a Just War?
A war fought under the auspices of the just war criteria
What are the conditions for a war to be just?
- Authorised by an appropriate body
- Fought for the right reasons
- It is the last possible resolution
- Must have a good chance of being won
- Have fair conduct
- Not use WMD or other weapons that cause harm to innocent civilians
What is a Holy War?
A just war with rules set by the Qur’an
What are the conditions for a war to be Holy?
- Soldiers on the battlefield must fight
- Enemy must attack first
- Ends when the enemy wants peace
- Good treatment of prisoners of war
- Last resort
- Cannot be fought against other Muslim nations
What is a WMD?
Weapon of Mass Destruction
What are the 4 types of WMD?
- Nuclear Weapons (Atomic Bomb)
- Biological Weapons (Viruses)
- Chemical Weapons (Mustard Gas)
- Radiological Weapons (Dirty Bombs)
