Multiculturilism
The view that cultures deserve special acknowledgement of their differences within a dominant political sphere.
The Census
An official count of the population to find out about the chnages that take place.

Refugee
A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war or prosecution.
Asylum Seeker
Someone who claims to be a refugee but whos claim hasnt yet been definitively evaluated.
Economic Migrant
A person who travels from one country or area to another in order to improve their standard of living.
Tolerance
Being patient, understanding and accepting of anything different in people or groups.
Inequality
The unfair situation in society when some people have more oppurtunities than others.
Discrimination
The unfair treatment of people and groups based on their characteristics.
Young Womens Trust
- Offers support to women between the ages 18-30
- Helps women who are living on low or no pay and want to build a better future.
-Aim to unlock young womens potential, smash career stereotypes, value womens unpaid work and have equal workplaces.
Sex Discrimination Act 1975
Protected men and women from discrimination on the grounds of sex and marital status.
Disability Discrimination Act 1995
Works to protect people with disabilites - including blind and partiallysighted people from discrimination.
Equality Act 2010
Legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and wider society. It replaced the previous anti-dsicrimination laws with a single Act.

Dagenham Womens Strike 1968
- Nearly 200 female workers striked in protest of their inequal treatment at the Ford Motor Company plant.
- They protested getting less pay than men who were also in the same group.
